Last week was a week in which the fundament for my research project is created. The mirror box in which people will perform their wrist flexion training is build from wood and cardboard and the setup for performing wrist flexions is figured out. The training will be performed on high level (because the limitations of the strength training apparatus forced us in this direction) and therefore we had to create also a table which was high enough. Most of the preparatory work is done now, and that is exactly on time because my Dutch supervisor will come over at the end of this week.

What happens further this week. On Tuesday I found the quark in the supermarket, so the last ingredient for a successful and protein rich sprint carrier is present now. On Tuesday the snow was finally disappeared which resulted in my first training on the track outside. The funniest thing about the track is the 1 meter height difference between the 100m start and finish, so actually we train always uphill. Smart as the English people are, they run in the opposite direction during competitions.

After my training on Thursday I was cooking at home and especially at that moment the fire alarm became activated. The evacuation started and after some minutes I stood with around 100 others in front of our flats. First I thought that it was all mine, but fortunately it was someone else’s fault. Four fire brigade trucks came (in my opinion a bit too much), but it was false alarm. After 20 hungry minutes everything was save again and I could continue my cooking. They told me that false alarms happened quite often, so we keep the fire brigade going.

On Friday I went out with some flat mates and other international students and on Saturday I did some sightseeing with a flat mate. We went to the Baltic Centre of contemporary art. The art was not really spectacular, but this was in big contrast with the view from the roof of this building. At this moment Chelsea played (and lost) vs. Newcastle and we could see and hear the spectators on St. James Park (the stadium of Newcastle United). As amazing was the view, as amazing was also this match. Another amazing match was Manchester City vs. Liverpool on Sunday, which we watched in a “pub” on the campus. I start to appreciate the English competition more and more.

More writings will follow next week. Talk to you all soon.
